Alternatives to Shampoo and Conditioner

Okay - this sounds a bit crazy but I am on a pretty strict budget and I am going to try it when I start the protocol since I cannot afford to buy everything under the sun but want to make sure I am compliant about the NO OILS on the skin. Go check out this article about using baking soda as a shampoo alternative and I already knew about the apple cider vinegar as a hair rinse which if followed by as cold of a rinse as you can stand will close down your hair cuticle. http://naturaldsm.wordpress.com/2006/12/20/25/

Hi Toni,
I am Pamela, I am also taking part in the HCG Challenge. Nice blog! I tried the baking soda as shampoo and found it very hard to rinse out and I had one heck of a time combing my hair out. Maybe I did it wrong. I have used an Herbal shampoo Nature's Gate Aloe Vera that I learned about on HCGdietinfo.com. I found it at a health food store. It works pretty well. I'll have to try the acv rinse. I look forward to talking to you as we continue the challenge. Good Luck!

Yes, what you want to do is make a paste and ONLY use next to the scalp. Start by wetting your hair down. Your hair looks a little thicker than mine so you may want to try wetting it down, parting into sections and then applying the paste. Rinse with really hot water - as hot as you can stand. Then follow with the ACV rinse comb through in the shower (I use a 3:1 Water:ACV mixture)followed by as cool of a rinse as you can stand. The ACV works to close down the cuticle of your hair shaft that the baking soda just opened. So both are needed for this to be successful. When I was in beauty school (yes I am a beauty school drop out :D) we would use baking soda and water to strip out any residue on the hair before a perm. We would then use white vinegar in the neutralizer to close the cuticle of the hair creating a firmer more stable curl. So, there's the chemistry lesson for the day HAHAHAHA...

ow, you guys actually tried it eh. Anyhow, since baking powder costs money as well, why not just buy a shampoo in sachet? I remember when I was a kid when people, specially ladies, that I know of and those who lives in my house hunt for aloe vera plant and they use it for their hair.
